Understanding Deafhood: Our Identity (3 of 4) ASL Vlog

This 12-minute video shows some of the third part of the “Understanding Deafhood” presentation series at the National Association of the Deaf Conference in Palm Desert, California last summer. “Understanding Deafhood: Out Identity” will discuss four areas:     1) critical examination (examined vs unexamined), 2) deficit thinking, 3) consciousness, and 4) construction of Deaf consciousness.  This video will help us understand the importance of Deaf consciousness and identities to the point that it is so critical for all Deaf people to learn, grow, and work together.  As always, thank you for your interest in learning more about Deafhood.

For full transcript of this vlog, click here.

Greetings.  I know you probably were expecting to see the Understanding Deafhood: Our Identity (3 of 4) clip but it will be ready very soon.  Since I work in an educational setting, we have been busy welcoming our students back to school.  Thank you for your interest and patience.

Meanwhile, I have been getting some requests for “A Journey to Deafhood” ASL Vlog by Genie Gertz to be reposted from my old website.  This vlog will help and clarify questions about Deafhood.  The most important message in this Vlog is that Deafhood DOES include every Deaf people in our signing community to better understand our experiences and how we can improve lives of Deaf people.

If you have seen it before, it is always good to reflect again and do share your thoughts here.

Best,

Joey
