Blue Ribbon Ceremony Video (1999)

It is a good time to remind ourselves why Deaf people are here on Earth in the first place. The 13-minute video memorializes Deaf people who have suffered yet carried on our Sign Languages and Deafhood.  Additionally, this video will inspire us to continue fighting for our Deaf children’s human rights. The video is subtitled and was performed at the World Federation of the Deaf conference in 1999.

My first name is Joey last name Baer.

This vlog discusses why some Deaf people signed “first name” before their first name then “last name” before last name. How did this start and what is the appropriate way to sign our names without saying “first name” and “last name”? (2:00)

Four Deaf Yorkshiremen (BSL Film)

How hard was growing up deaf? In this short film, four old deaf men try to tell the worst story about their childhood - and there’s ten pounds on the table for the ‘winner!’

Clips from the film were shown on BBC2’s See Hear programme on 23rd January, 2008. The film was reviewed by the Observer film critic Jason Solomons, and the Guardian’s Cathy Heffernan.

The film was inspired by the classic ‘Four Yorkshiremen’ sketch made famous by Monty Python, but with a new script for a deaf cast.

Written and directed by Charlie Swinbourne, made in association with Remark Production[ev type="youtube" data="2upAsFzO9AU"][/ev]
