Viva Davila! Davia and Jordan are exactly the antithesis. Davila is a symbol of “glasnot” — a Russian term for “open communication” — whereas Jordan is quite condemnatory with the MBI.

The rapportment between Davila and the community is positive. He does not dampen anyone’s enthusiasum or belittle them.Davila is a true and successful leader. Jordan is too Draconian that no one can follow him; ergo, he is a failure. (Remember Jordan never supported the DPN. It goes to show that he
does not believe that deaf people can be
leaders. Now Davila proves Jordan wrong!)

    Vive l’Université Gallaudet!

Bravo Joey for sharing this with everyone who read this. We need to put this to a good practice for other many places where hearing people take over us. We lost a Deaf director Frank Lala PHD two years ago at NorthWest Deaf Addiction Center to a hearing director.

HATS OFF to the protestors. Along with the community’s help, they literally saved Gallaudet University. You are right, Joey, we have a lot to learn from the student protestors who exhibited successful leadership since day one.

    Hats off to you, protestors!

    Joey,

Thank you for bringing your thoughts to share with our viewers.

VIVA GALLAUDET! The day I smiled and saw the bright side at the end of tunnel toward the ALL-NEW Gallaudet University for all constiuents.

I gratefully thanked Dr. Bob Davila with his time, effort, energy, and willingful to step the golden door to open our new heal and the wound gradually recovered for us. His warming and opening heart brought himself to rescue our university soil to hail with blue and bluff and our precious mascot including our forefathers of Laurent Clerc and Thomas H. Gallaudet, who brought our Gallaudet country to stand strong and to preserve our beautiful people of culture, language, and deafhood, stood their grateful ride of future generations of university level.

Thanks to the great leaders such as Provost Stephen F. Weiner, Michael Moore, MJ Bienveau, Donalda Ammons, Ryan Commerson, Tara Holcomb, Alumnus, students, and faculty to save our precious university soil and join our bridge with RIT/NTID, CSUN, and community colleges to share with our hands together into one unity of America and International.

Thank you, Joey for making this happen.

I agree with Joey and DE about the successful student leadership during the protest.

Contrary to Jordan and Fernandes’ propaganda, the student leaders actually had their act together from the very beginning.

The Student Body Government issued this statement in the early morning of Tuesday, May 2, 2006, which shows that they had very valid reasons for the protest: (PDF version:)

sorry – delete that video response. I’m still awkward with this new feature! What I meant to say was that this was a good vlog.
The news made me, a Gallaudet protester, feel even more validated and justified in my actions during the May and October protests, and that my faith in Gallaudet and Davila has been strengthened.
I am proud of Davila, Weiner and the new administraion, students, faculty and the protesters. Now the question is: what will happen now with King, Kelleher and Kimmel returning to Gallaudet, and why is Kelly still at Gallaudet?
    Vive Le Gallaudet.

A Deaf leader is someone who can feel the pulse of the Deaf Community, especially in the academics where students are properly nutured instead of punished, as it was the case under JKF’s so-called leadership, which failed miserably. The Gally student leadership during the protest is finally paying dividends by seeing Gally being taken off probation. Gallaudet University is healing.

Transparency and open communication will lead to successful leadership unlike suppressing the freedom of speech and expression among members of the society.

The arrest of Ryan Commerson and 130s Gally students and alumnus definitely shook up the Gallaudet community much more than helping out individuals in leadership circles, ex. IKJ and JKF. Those despised individuals surely know nothing about the importance of academic freedom and the given society from supprassing any kind of fear or reprisal.

JK and IKJ’s leadership are largely based on deceptions, iies and power trips, instead of letting the flower (educational progress) blossom.

Here is a copy of the letters that Bernard Holt sent to the Board:

    http://gallyprotest.org/holt.pdf

He was interviewed in his home by a Washington Post reporter on Sunday, May 7, 2006, but the Washington Post has never reported any information about this topic.

Money was misappropriated at Gallaudet. It was supposed to be used to hire and train new campus police officers, but it was not. The people were already interviewed and ready to be hired as new officers. A protester had been killed by Gallaudet campus police officers who used an illegal chokehold (against Carl DuPree, who protested the English Dept policies). DPS falls under VP Paul Kelly’s chain of command.

    Awesome Vlog!!!!

Please keep in mind that Davila ‘s term will be expired in December, 2008. Davila would be irreplaceable. In other words it would be very hard for anyone to fill in his shoes. However, we are hoping to have someone who will use Davila’s style of leadership when he leaves Gallaudet.

That’s wonderful news! I am so thrilled to see this…congrats Gallaudet!

I was told that King and Jane will be back next semester to teach at Gallaudet? Is it for real? Do you have any information on that and if it is for a fact?

    Thanks.

if it is true either King or Jane returns to Gallaudet, I hope they understand that there will be walls. During the protests, a climate was created where students were punished. As Jane returns, will it be a new Jane or the same Jane? I rather for the Gallaudet students to know who they are getting instead of having to second-guess what they will be getting out of her. Gallaudet was put on probation because of the stubborness of JKF. Accredition means everything to Gallaudet! Gallaudet will start howling again once JKF is around, and US lawmakers are not going to really understand how I feel and play the accredition card with us. I don’t think after what has happened Jane shouldn’t be welcome back inside the gates of Gallaudet, she needs to leave us alone and find work elsewhere. To be honest here.

I want to stress than JFK is a human being, a woman who has feelings despite her failure at Gally and despite her response to the protest and the poor decisions she made. My feeling is that if she is indeed bent on returning to Gally, she is making a mistake, because the Gallaudet students don’t forget easily. Many were arrested. Parents who saw their children who were students/protesters of Gally getting arrested saw their worst nightmare come true. Those parents entrusted the care of their beloved children to JKF’s administration. So in spite of JKF’s human fragility, we have to send her a message. So many issues arose because of this, with accredition among the troubling issues. When someone grossly mismanages, that person has to go take a hike.

If we fail to take the pulse, our alma mater will die. If we don’t resuscitate, that person will lose breath. In this case, JKF didn’t do either. So, we took action.
